Mineralogical Factors Affecting the Dense Medium Separation of Nickel Sulfide Ores

نویسندگان

چکیده

Dense medium separation (DMS) is often used to reject a large portion of gangue material upfront create cost and energy savings during processing. As lower-grade ores with complex mineralogy are being increasingly exploited, the properties minerals begin play more important role in upgrading ore. It therefore understand these mineralogical factors be able select suitable processing routes for specific ore types. Two nickel sulfide deposits southern Africa were chosen as case studies differences DMS efficiency when applied different ores: Ore A B. Both showed upgrades using products then characterized QEMSCAN, aid X-ray diffraction electron probe microanalysis. Overall, particle density remains main control on separation, followed by texture, massive net-textured sulfides having larger grain sizes better liberation than disseminated sulfides. In addition concentration sulfides, primary secondary silicate separated their differences, which can affect recovery finely associated them. Particle size also DMS, near cut-point separating rather density. The understanding affecting prediction suitability

Nickel and Cobalt Ores: Flotation

Most of the world’s nickel is extracted from the mineral pentlandite, (Ni, Fe)9S8, which frequently occurs in ores containing predominantly pyrrhotite and various non-sulRdes, some of which contain magnesium (Table 1). The nickel content in such sulRde ores is generally low (0.2}3%) and varies from place to place in the same deposit. The low nickel content of the present-day nickel sulRde ores ...

Direct sulfide oxidation in the solubilization of sulfide ores by Thiobacillus ferrooxidans.

The increased rate of solubilization of sulfide ores of iron and copper caused by Thiobacillus ferrooxidans has been attributed either to direct action of the bacteria on the ore or to an indirect effect whereby the ferric ion is presumed to oxidize the ore and is returned to the active, oxidized state by the iron-oxidizing bacteria. Attempts by M. P. Silverman (3) to demonstrate that microbial...

Factors Affecting Ruminal Hydrogen Sulfide Concentration of Cattle

and Implications Ruminal hydrogen sulfide concentrations may be a useful tool to determine risk of cattle developing sulfurinduced polioencephalomalacia. In this study, steers were fed a low sulfur (0.2% S) or a high sulfur diet (0.7% S) and ruminal hydrogen sulfide concentrations were measured. Although differences in ruminal hydrogen sulfide due to sulfur intake were maintained throughout the...

Structural and Mineralogical Imperfections of Some High Grade Quartz Ores Diagnose Their Chemical Reactivity

The grade of a quartz ore is not a measure of its chemical reactivity. A high grade quartz sample (B) showed low reactivity in sodium silicate production. Structural imperfection usually occurs due to lattice defects in the quartz tetrahedron as a result of several substitutions that happen during mineralization. The random distortion of the quartz tetrahedron that could be affected by various ...

The development of dynamic models for a dense medium separation circuit in coal beneficiation

Often the most difficult step in establishing a control system is the development of a suitable dynamic process model. As such a model is not available elsewhere, a first principle dynamic mathematical model was developed for a coal dense medium separation circuit. Each unit operation was modelled individually and then integrated together to form a complete non-linear state–space model for the ...
